"L'énergie sombre"'s cast on set

Canadian filmmaker Leonardo Fuica has created a low-budget horror film called L'énergie sombre (Dark Energy) that explores paranormal phenomenons. The film, which stars Isabelle Blais, Pierre-Luc Brillant, Émilie Leclerc, Tommy Lavallée, and Sébastien Huberdeau, was shot in just seven days with limited resources. Fuica emphasizes that the film is based on real-life unexplained phenomena in Quebec.

According to Fuica, Quebec has a significant number of unexplained paranormal cases that people are unaware of. He wanted to bring attention to these cases and decided to base his film on real events. L'énergie sombre follows two students who enlist the help of a group of paranormal investigators to unravel the mysterious disappearance of a young man that occurred several years ago. The investigation takes them to various locations that appear to be haunted by malevolent forces.

Fuica explains that the film combines fiction and reality, drawing inspiration from actual cases of students experiencing mysterious phenomena while filming documentaries in haunted locations. He incorporated the concept of dark energy, which is based on scientific research, into the plot.

The film was shot using a subjective camera style, similar to popular found-footage horror films like Blair Witch Project, REC, or Cloverfield. Fuica felt that this style suited the story well, and the actors, including Blais and Brillant, embraced the opportunity to work on a film of this genre.

In addition to producing the film, Fuica Films Picture had taken the challenge of acting as its own canadian distributor. L'énergie sombre premiered in a few theaters in Montreal and Quebec, with the support of Guzzo cinemas. Leonardo believes that there is a market for quebec horror films, as American horror films are popular in Quebec and other Canadian provinces. He hopes that L'énergie sombre can find an audience and contribute to the growing interest in Quebec-produced horror films. Click here to read the French article.
